Half-Time Report: Sven Bender goal puts Dortmund ahead

Borussia Dortmund score early on to hold a 1-0 lead heading into the break against Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

An early goal from Sven Bender has given Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 half-time lead over Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

It was actually a strong start from Augsburg, who were keeping the ball better than their hosts in the opening exchanges, but Dortmund took the lead much against the run of play.

After just six minutes, Marco Reus took the defence by surprise with a quick free kick and Bender was there at the far post to tap in and put his side ahead.

However, Augsburg continued to see more of the ball, but despite a couple of free kicks from Halil Altintop that were headed away, they were not threatening Roman Weidenfeller's goal.

Instead it was Dortmund who could have doubled their lead as Henrikh Mkhitaryan combined with Robert Lewandowski with some quick passing, but he shot wide once he was in the box.
