Borussia Dortmund slip to draw after late SV Darmstadt 98 equaliser

SV Darmstadt 98 score in stoppage time to earn a surprise draw at Borussia Dortmund.

Newly-promoted SV Darmstadt 98 scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn a point at Borussia Dortmund in their Bundesliga clash this afternoon.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was first to threaten in the seventh minute, but his long-range effort went narrowly wide of the left post before Marco Reus shot over the bar four minutes later.

Heller gave Darmstadt the lead in the 17th minute when he met Jerome Gondorf's cross and directed the ball into the bottom-left corner on the counter-attack.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang twice had chances to equalise but he could not hit the target from close range, and headed over the bar a minute later.

Julian Weigl then forced Christian Mathenia into a save when his shot from the edge of the area was heading towards the bottom-left corner as Darmstadt held out until the break.

After a slow start to the second half, Dortmund were level on the hour mark, when Matthias Ginter supplied Aubameyang who fired into the bottom-right corner.

Mkhitaryan then had a shot blocked but it was Aubameyang who notched his second shortly after to give Dortmund the lead.

This time, the Gabon international directed the ball into the top-right corner from Adnan Januzaj's assist.

Aubameyang nearly grabbed his hat-trick with six minutes remaining, but headed wide from Mkhitaryan's cross.

With the points looking to be going to Dortmund, Darmstadt grabbed a surprise equaliser in stoppage time. Aytac Sulu was first to a free kick into the area and volleyed into the bottom-left corner.
