Borussia Monchengladbach record first win of season with victory over Augsburg

Borussia Monchengladbach record their first win of the Bundesliga campaign, scoring four goals in 21 first-half minutes to earn a 4-2 victory over Augsburg.

Borussia Monchengladbach recorded their first win of the new campaign by putting four first-half goals past Augsburg on Wednesday evening.

Fabian Johnson opened the scoring after five minutes for Monchengladbach, who are now under the interim management of Andre Schubert following Lucien Favre's departure on Saturday.

Granit Xhaka's 17th-minute strike, assisted by Raffael, gave Schubert's side a two-goal advantage.

Raffael was again involved as he teed up Lars Stindl, who fired past Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz.

The Brazilian midfielder recorded his third assist of the game by sending Mahmound Dahoud through on goal, the midfielder making no mistake from close range to make it four goals in 21 minutes for Monchengladbach.

Augsburg hit back in the second period through two penalties from captain Paul Verhaegh, but the Dutchman's spot kicks were not enough to rescue anything for Markus Weinzierl's side.

Monchengladbach move up to 16th position in the league thanks to their first win, while Augsburg now sit in 14th.
