Eintracht Franfkurt come from behind to beat Borussia Monchengladbach

Eintracht Frankfurt pull further away from the Bundesliga relegation zone as the visitors come from behind to upset Borussia Monchengladbach with a 3-1 victory.

Borussia Monchengladbach have lost ground on the Bundesliga's top two after suffering a surprise 3-1 defeat to Eintracht Franfkrurt.

It was the hosts who broke the deadlock in just the fifth minute when Havard Nordtveit used the space gifted to him on the edge of the box to fire past a helpless Felix Wiedwald.

Frankfurt should have been level a few minutes later, but Marco Russ somehow managed to head wide of the target after finding space inside the box to meet Takashi Inui's cross.

Despite looking dangerous after the early setback, Franfkurt were left frustrated in the first half, with Alexander Meier seeing a powerful free kick kept out by Yann Sommer.

However, the visitors were finally rewarded for their pressure nine minutes into the second half when Marc Stendera cut in from the left wing to pick out the bottom corner with an accurate strike.

Frankfurt then took the lead before the hour mark when Meier reacted quickest in the box to tap home, after Sommer had saved Stefan Aigner's low strike.

Sommer's attempts to get his side back on the front foot resulted in Frankfurt extending their lead as the Monchengladbach stopper's short goal kick was intercepted, allowing Meier to pick out Inui, who curled in his side's third from the edge of the box.

Monchengladbach desperately searched for a way back into the match in the closing stages, but their afternoon would end in disappointment as Granit Xhaka, who had been booked for dissent moments earlier, picked up a second yellow card in stoppage time for a foul on Sonny Kittel.
