Wolfsburg loss hands Bayern Munich Bundesliga title

Max Kruse strikes in the last minute to give Borussia Monchengladbach victory over Wolfsburg and confirm Bayern Munich as champions of Germany.

Bayern Munich have been crowned champions of Germany after Max Kruse's late strike gave Borussia Monchengladbach victory over Wolfsburg.

The visitors, who were realistically looking to cement second place rather than chase down Pep Guardiola's side down at the top of the table, almost scored within three minutes when Daniel Caligiuri fired just wide from Maximilian Arnold's pass.

Nicklas Bendtner may wish he had done better later in the half when, with Ivan Perisic and Kevin de Bruyne in support, the ex-Arsenal man chose to shoot and missed the target.

The hosts tried to seize the advantage after half time when first Patrick Herrmann saw his effort saved before Christoph Kramer brought another stop out of Diego Benaglio.

Just after the hour mark, Borussia went close to breaking the deadlock when Raffael Araujo teed up Kruse and the striker's shot drifted just past the right post.

Monchengladbach then missed a gilt-edged chance to edge in front with 15 minutes left when Araujo's slide-rule pass found Kruse six yards out, but the forward's effort was horribly skewed off target.

However, Borussia snatched victory in the last minute of the 90 as Kruse crept up on the left side of the area to slot past Benaglio.

The result not only confirms Bayern as champions, but also guarantees that Monchengladbach will finish in the top four.
