Alan Hansen: 'Brazil defeat is low point'

Brazil's 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Germany was their lowest point in 50 years, according to Alan Hansen.

Alan Hansen has labelled Brazil's 7-1 loss to Germany as the lowest point in the last half-century for the South American side.

The ex-Liverpool defender, who won three European Cups with Liverpool in a 14-year career, criticised the defending on show from the Selecao and expressed his disbelief at the level of performance.

He told BBC Sport: "I've been watching football for over 50 years. The high point was the Brazil team of 1970, this is the low point.

"You have to give Germany credit but that is a woeful, woeful performance that could not get any lower. I don't think the Germans can believe what they have just done. Nobody could have summed this up.

"Even though David Luiz gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen, I still feel sorry for him coming off the pitch in tears."

Hansen played for Scotland at the 1982 World Cup, where the Tartan Army were beaten 4-1 by Brazil.
