Ajax are reportedly considering whether to make an approach for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya during the January transfer window.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Ajax ahead of the January window.

Raya is established as the undisputed number one with the Bees, making a total of 139 appearances in all competitions.

The 27-year-old is an ever-present in the Premier League this campaign, keeping his spot despite the summer arrival of Thomas Strakosha.

Recently, the agent of Strakosha has expressed his and the Albania international's unhappiness with their current situation at the West London outfit.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Federico Pastorello said: "Maybe they were thinking of selling their goalkeeper, I don't know. But clearly it's a situation that we've only been in for a short time and it's a bit awkward today because for a goalkeeper who has over 200 games in Serie A with Lazio to find himself not playing at Brentford is not easy, bearing in mind that we're talking about an important Premier League club.

"It's an anomaly. He's asked me to find a solution, let's see, he's one of those players who could be part of the goalkeeping market that will arise from Neuer's injury."

However, according to AS, the situation may be rectified if Brentford take any opportunity to cash in on Raya at the midway point of the campaign.

The report claims that the Spain international is one of a number of goalkeepers who are being considered by Ajax given their struggles between the sticks this campaign.

Although Ajax have conceded 17 times in 14 matches, shipping at over a goal per game is regarded as a failure given their status in the Eredivisie.

Remko Pasveer, who has started each of those matches, is now 39 years of age, and the Dutch giants are now said to feel that now is the right time to sign a replacement.

While Brentford may preferably not want to sell Raya, he is one of their most prized assets and has just over 18 months remaining on his contract.

Having also being called up to Spain's World Cup squad, Raya's stock has never been higher, leaving Brentford with the opportunity to make a substantial profit on the £3m that they paid for his signature.

Any sale would fit the criteria which Brentford officials use when it comes to conducting transfer business, potentially leaving discussions to be held between player and club.

Ajax are allegedly also contemplating a move for Andries Noppert, the Heerenveen goalkeeper who has just impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
