Brighton & Hove Albion's Inigo Calderon angry with UEFA rules

Brighton defender Inigo Calderon expresses his annoyance at UEFA rules which mean that Brighton will have to play their FA Cup replay just two days after a league game.

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Inigo Calderon has expressed his annoyance at UEFA rules which mean that the Seagulls and Hull City will have to play their FA Cup replay next Monday.

Following last night's 1-1 draw in their fifth-round tie, the pair will have to play next Monday as UEFA rules dictate that top-level domestic fixtures cannot be played on the same night as European fixtures; the Champions League is being played next Tuesday and Wednesday.

When told that having to play on Monday, two days after Brighton's league match against Wigan Athletic, was because of UEFA rules, Calderon told PA: "Well, then they don't think too much about the players. I don't like that.

"If you ask someone with common sense and that knows about the physical side, they will know the players will not be ready to play.

"That is when you are even more tired and I don't understand, but if they are the rules then they don't think too much about the players, that is for sure."

If Brighton upset Hull in the replay, they will go on to face former boss Gus Poyet and Sunderland in the quarter-finals.
