Half-Time Report: Ashley Barnes hands Brighton & Hove Albion advantage

Brighton & Hove Albion lead at the break in their Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers thanks to Ashley Barnes's first-half penalty.

Brighton & Hove Albion lead at the break in their Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers at the Amex Stadium.

Rovers were the first to threaten in a quiet start to the game as Tom Cairney raided down the left and lifted a cross into the area for James Lowe but his effort was deflected just wide of the post.

At the other end Craig Conway tested the handling ability of Jake Kean with a powerful shot at the end of a good run but the keeper was able to deny him and hold the ball with ease.

Brighton took the lead in the 35th minute when they were awarded a penalty as Dickson Etuhu brought down Conway in the area and Ashley Barnes made no mistake from the spot, firing past Kean.
