Brighton & Hove Albion piled more misery onto Portsmouth's season this afternoon by beating them 2-0 at the Amex Stadium.

The first half proved uneventful as both sides failed to create a genuine goalscoring opportunity.

The second half continued in a similar manner, with Jamie Ashdown providing a rare highlight when he denied Joe Mattock from close range.

The hosts finally broke the deadlock with 15 minutes to go when Vicente delivered a 25-yard free kick which proved too good for Ashdown to deal with, giving Brighton the lead.

The Seagulls doubled this lead late on when Vicente grabbed his second of the match in stoppage time.

The result means that Portsmouth remain rooted to the bottom of the table, while Brighton move into the play-off positions.
