Team News: Sami Hyypia names three debutants for first Brighton & Hove Albion game

Sami Hyppia names three debutants in Brighton & Hove Albion's side for his first competitive game in charge of the South Coast club at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Sami Hyypia has named three debutants in his Brighton & Hove Albion side for their opening-day game at home to Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

Hyppia, who is in charge of the South Coast side for the first time in a competitive game following his appointment in June, has included David Stockdale in goal following the 28-year-old's move from Fulham this summer.

Aaron Hughes will also start his first game for Brighton, while Chris O'Grady will make his debut against his former club.

The visitors have also given a debut to their goalkeeper, Keiren Westwood, after the former Sunderland stopper arrived at the Owls from Sunderland on a free transfer. Tom Lees also makes his first start for the side after arriving from Leeds United, while Sam Hutchinson - who spent part of last season on loan from Chelsea - will play in central midfield after penning a permanent contract with Stuart Gray's side over the summer.

Brighton finished last season in sixth place, but crashed out of the playoffs following a 6-2 aggregate loss to Derby County in the semi-finals, while Sheffield Wednesday comfortably avoided the drop by finishing 16th.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Stockdale; Bruno, Greer, Hughes, Calderon; Forster-Caskey, Ince, Crofts; LuaLua, Fenelon, O'Grady

Sheffield Wednesday: Westwood; Palmer, Lees, Loovens, Mattock; Maguire, Hutchinson, Lee, Coke, Maghoma; Nuhiu
