Tomasz Kuszczak among six released by Brighton, new deal for Matthew Upson

Brighton & Hove Albion announce that six out-of-contract players will leave the club this summer, while four will be offered new deals.

Brighton & Hove Albion have today announced that six out-of-contract players will leave the club this summer, while four will be offered new deals.

Goalkeepers Tomasz Kuszczak and Peter Brezovan, Will Hoskins, Andrea Orlandi, David Lopez Moreno and David Rodriguez are the six on their way out.

Those to be presented with new deals are veteran defender Matthew Upson, Inigo Calderon, Casper Ankergren and Bruno Saltor.

Kuszczak's departure is the most surprising after two full seasons with the Seagulls as their number one. In 2013-14 he helped the club to a league-best 20 clean sheets.

The news comes just two days after the resignation of head coach Oscar Garcia, who felt it was time to move on following the Seagulls' heavy defeat to Derby County in the Championship playoff semi-final.

"We had held off from making these decisions until now at the request of Oscar Garcia," chairman Tony Bloom told the club website.

"He felt it was important for the unity within the squad in the final weeks of the campaign that we waited until the end of the season."

Brighton have also taken up the option to extend Kazenga LuaLua's contract.
