Henrique Silva inspires Brisbane Roar to first points of A-League season

Substitute Henrique scores a hat-trick and provides the other as Brisbane Roar collect their first points of the A-League season with a 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle Jets.

A hat-trick from substitute Henrique inspired Brisbane Roar to their first points of the A-League season as they thrashed fellow strugglers Newcastle Jets 4-0.

The Brazilian replaced the injured Jean Carlos Solorzano off the bench in the first half to score three and provide another to help Brisbane get off the mark.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Henrique struck shortly after the restart to put the Roar in front.

Dimitrios Petratos had the chance to double their lead from the spot following a foul by Kew Jaliens in the box, but Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Birighitti saved his 61st-minute penalty.

That was only a temporary reprieve for the Jets, as Henrique supplied Steven Lustica for Brisbane's second five minutes later, before making a maiden victory of the campaign safe himself on 72 minutes.

The striker completed his treble one minute from time by converting a Mensur Kurtishi cross, as the visitors climbed off the bottom of the table and left Newcastle winless in six matches this season.
