Saturday's Championship predictions including Millwall vs. Sunderland

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Championship fixtures, including Millwall vs. Sunderland.

Bristol City vs. Burnley (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Bristol City play host to Burnley on Saturday afternoon with the opportunity to catapult themselves up the Championship table.

Although there are six places separating these two sides, the Robins sit just five points adrift of the visitors who are in fourth position.

We say: Bristol City 1-2 Burnley

With both teams having posted crucial wins in their own right last time out, they will be confident of building on it at Ashton Gate. However, we are backing Burnley to edge this contest, Parker knowing that his side have to change something up in the final third.

Aiming to go top of the Championship table with a fifth straight victory, Sheffield United will travel to take on Coventry City on Saturday.

The Blades currently sit second and only trail leaders Sunderland on goal difference, while their hosts sit 17th having played out a draw prior to the recent break following Mark Robins's departure.

We say: Coventry City 0-1 Sheffield United

With the hosts yet to get truly up and running this season and the visitors returning to action on the back of four straight victories thanks to the league's strongest defensive record, we back the Blades to get over the line in a tight contest at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.

Sheff Weds vs. Cardiff (Saturday, 12.30pm)

With three points separating them in the bottom half of the Championship table, Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City will do battle at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The two sides each suffered defeats before the recent international break, leaving the hosts 15th and the visitors 22nd but only adrift of safety on goal difference.

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Cardiff City

Omer Riza's Cardiff City side are tasked with bouncing back to form after seeing their fine early run ended before the break, but they may struggle away at a Sheffield Wednesday side who are also desperate to get back to winning ways at the weekend.

Blackburn vs. Portsmouth (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Portsmouth return from the international break with a trip to Ewood Park for Saturday's Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers.

The hosts are currently sitting in ninth place in the Championship table, while the visitors are languishing in 23rd position.

We say: Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Portsmouth

Pompey may have experienced success in their home game against Preston before the international break, but they have lost four of their previous six away matches, and with that in mind, we think that they may fall just short in Saturday's clash with Blackburn.

Luton vs. Hull City (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Luton Town will welcome Hull City to Kenilworth Road on Saturday for a crucial game at the bottom end of the Championship table.

The two sides are both tied on 15 points having suffered defeats before the November international break and only lead the relegation zone on goal difference.

We say: Luton Town 2-1 Hull City

Saturday's meeting is crucial for both teams in their bid to put a tough start to the season behind them.

Luton Town are yet to show their quality on their return to the Championship but should have enough to get over the line at Kenilworth Road against a Hull City side also struggling for confidence.

Millwall vs. Sunderland (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Both aiming to continue their respective unbeaten runs, Millwall and league leaders Sunderland will clash for a tasty-looking Championship battle at The Den on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions conquered some of the division's top sides in the capital prior to the international break, whilst the Black Cats have experienced a spell of stalemates as they fight for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

We say: Millwall 1-0 Sunderland

Fresh and raring to fight following the two-week international break, Millwall should have the energy to produce another positive result against a promotion contender at The Den.

Plagued by suspensions and injuries, we are expecting the Black Cats to struggle in the capital, leading to the end of their eight-game unbeaten run.

Oxford Utd vs. Middlesbrough (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Oxford United play host to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon looking for the win that will move them away from the relegation zone.

At a time when the home side sit in 16th position in the Championship table, Middlesbrough are seventh after putting together back-to-back wins before the international break.

We say: Oxford United 1-1 Middlesbrough

Oxford's form at home will ensure that Middlesbrough are not complacent about facing one of the smaller teams in the division. Nevertheless, we do not think it will be enough to earn more than a share of the spoils, a result that will suit the home side more so than the visitors.

Preston vs. Derby (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom on August 08, 2024© Imago

Looking to halt their worrying winless run, Preston North End will welcome Derby County to Deepdale for an all-important Championship clash on Saturday afternoon in Lancashire.

The Lilywhites will be aiming to bounce back following a woeful performance on the road prior to the international break, whilst the Rams are fighting to improve their displays on the road in the second tier.

We say: Preston North End 2-1 Derby County

Given a fortnight to reflect on their poor run of form, Preston should be raring to get back into second-tier action and put Derby to the sword at Deepdale.

The Rams have struggled on the road so far in 2024-25, so we cannot envisage the newly-promoted side earning anything tangible for their efforts in Lancashire this weekend.

QPR vs. Stoke (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Stoke City manager Narcis Pelach on September 20, 2024© Imago

Queens Park Rangers play host to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon sitting five points adrift of safety in the Championship table.

Meanwhile, the Potters make the trip to Loftus Road having put together a three-match undefeated streak, helping them sit in 13th place.

We say: Queens Park Rangers 1-2 Stoke City

Cifuentes will be hoping that the international break came at the right time for his players to return with a different mindset. However, Stoke may have also benefitted from extra time on the training pitch, leaving us to predict a hard-earned victory for the Potters.

West Brom vs. Norwich (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Looking to end a sobering run of form at their Black Country base, West Bromwich Albion will welcome Norwich City to The Hawthorns for a Championship match on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies recorded a much-needed success at the home of Hull City last time out, whilst the Canaries' struggles continued against Bristol City at Carrow Road before the international break.

We say: West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Norwich City

After a streak of goalless draws at The Hawthorns, we are expecting West Brom to be desperate to put on an exciting performance for their home faithful.

That does not necessarily mean that the Baggies will score a hatful of goals, but we feel that Corberan's troops should have enough to beat a stuttering Norwich side.
