Preview: Bristol City vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Bristol City and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bristol City play host to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon looking for the win which would move them into the mid-table spots of the Championship standings.

Despite eight positions separating these two clubs, the Robins will move level with their 10th-placed opponents with victory at Ashton Gate.

At a time when they sit in 18th spot in the table, there will be no-one associated with Bristol City who are satisfied with their current standing.

Nevertheless, collecting eight points from five matches is a considerable step in the right direction, and even a marginal improvement on that return would see Nigel Pearson's men make quick headway up the table.

Bristol City's winless away run was extended to five games last time out, but Pearson twice saw his side come from behind to claim a 2-2 draw at in-form Hull City.

Antoine Semenyo and Matty James made welcome appearances on the scoresheet, with the dramatic end to the game going some way to making up for late lost points earlier in the campaign.

As well as the result keeping Bristol City trending in the right direction, they are now within touching distance of becoming involved in a packed race for the top six.

On the flip side, Huddersfield are on the brink of dropping out of immediate contention having prevailed in just one of their last seven fixtures.

Carlos Corberan has witnessed his side fail to claim three points from winning positions in their last two matches, the Terriers being denied by a late equaliser at home to Coventry City last week.

While the stalemate kept their points tally ticking over, it cost Huddersfield the chance to be within three points of fifth spot ahead of their visit to the South-West.

Leading marksman Danny Ward netted his fifth strike of the season in the draw with the Sky Blues, his first goal since November 3.

Team News

Despite being withdrawn during the first half of the game with Hull, Alex Scott is likely to be passed fit for this match.

However, George Tanner will be considered for a start at right wing-back in what has the potential to be the only alteration to the team.

Nathan Baker is unlikely to be in contention for a starting role, even if he has recovered from a head injury, while Chris Martin should keep his place in attack.

Corberan acknowledged that his Huddersfield team did not do enough to beat Coventry last time out, but it remains to be seen whether that will lead to alterations.

There is the potential for an unchanged side, unless Ward switches to one of the flanks to accommodate either Fraizer Campbell or Jordan Rhodes.

Bristol City possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Vyner, Kalas, Atkinson; Tanner, Massengo, James, O'Dowda; Weimann; Martin, Semenyo

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Nicholls; Pearson, Lees, Colwill, Toffolo; Thomas, O'Brien, High; Holmes, Ward, Koroma

We say: Bristol City 1-1 Huddersfield Town

Both teams have the freedom to push for all three points having established a significant gap above the relegation zone. Nevertheless, we are predicting a low-scoring draw with the two teams having the potential to cancel each other out.
