Burnley recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Barnsley at Turf Moor tonight after manager Eddie Howe had publicly called for a performance from his players.
Burnley took the lead after just three minutes, when a deep cross from Ross Wallace found Josh McQuaid at the back post who, in turn, knocked it down to Jay Rodriguez, who tapped it home.
The home side thought that they had doubled their lead just before half time when Charlie Austin's header was spilled by Steele and then cleared away, although replays suggested the ball may have crossed the line.
Barnsley hit back in the second half, in particular through Craig Davies, who saw his effort hit the underside of the bar.
Burnley soon got their second of the game though, and it came through Austin. Good build-up play from the hosts led to Rodriguez shooting, but his effort bounced off the post into the path of Austin, who made no mistake.
The second goal seemed to kill any hopes Barnsley had of a comeback, and the game drifted out into a comfortable 2-0 win for the Clarets.
