Burnley, Stoke City play out goalless draw

Neither side can force a breakthrough in the 90 minutes as relegated Burnley and Stoke City play out a goalless draw in their clash at Turf Moor.

The Clarets had a bright start to the match as Danny Ings weaved his way through the Stoke defence to get into the box, but the striker could only fire his effort straight at Jack Butland.

Burnley pressed again and only two good stops from Butland prevented them from taking the lead as George Boyd teed up Ings, who saw his close-range effort well saved before the keeper sprang to his feet to deny Kieran Trippier on the rebound.

David Jones became the latest player to be denied by Butland as the keeper made a diving save to save the midfielder's left-footed drive from the edge of the area.

Stoke had the chance to make Burnley pay for their missed opportunities as Charlie Adam whipped a dangerous free kick into the box. Jonathan Walters managed to slip between two defenders, but could only direct his header straight at Tom Heaton.

In the second half, Ings continued to be a threat as he raced into the box and had options in support to carve out an opening, but he chose to go for goal himself and fired his strike straight at Butland.

The Potters created an opportunity when Marko Arnautovic speeded down the right and lifted a cross into the box for the run of Mame Biram Diouf, but Jason Shackell did enough to deflect the ball behind.

Stoke pushed for a late winner as Marc Muniesa fired a shot at goal from the edge of the box, but Heaton saved with ease to ensure that his side earned a share of the spoils.
