Sean Dyche not expecting Burnley to bring in a lot of players in January

New technical director Mike Rigg will begin his role on December 1.

Sean Dyche has warned Burnley fans not to expect an influx of signings in January following Mike Rigg's appointment as technical director.

Rigg, who has previously held roles with Manchester City, QPR and Blackburn, will start his new job on December 1 with the January transfer window high on the agenda.

Dyche was hugely frustrated by the business he was able to do in the summer, with only Ben Gibson, Matej Vydra and Joe Hart coming in, but he knows Rigg will not be able to work miracles.

The Clarets boss said: "Mike Rigg's coming in, he'll give us a new thinking, a new set of eyes and adding to the thought process on players.

"Everyone knows January's a really tough window so, to make it clear, we're not looking for Mike to come in and miraculously hand over seven players.

"We're looking for a bigger picture process to add to what we try to do on the recruitment side. There's certain people we're interested in but we'll have to wait and see."

Burnley's difficult season continued with a 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle on Monday, leaving them one point off the bottom of the table and without a victory in six games.

Their defensive frailties were on show again as early goals from Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark put the Magpies two up, with Sam Vokes' header not enough to earn a point.

Saturday sees them face another of the sides at the wrong end of the table in Crystal Palace, who are on a longer winless run than their opponents, and Dyche remains convinced his team are on the right track.

He said: "The lads have been terrific, the last couple of weeks especially, the level of training, the level of commitment.

"You're looking in their eyes on the training pitch and you think, 'They're ready to go'. The way the players are going about it is the right way to change results.

"No one will ever put as much pressure on you as you put on yourself. It is balanced out with frustration but then equally those two things are balanced out when I see a group of players committed as they are and delivering performances that I think are improving, that gives you a real belief in what you do.

"The belief has been strong here for a number of years so it's important to not go too far away, while trying to add the things that obviously get the wins that we need.

"A lot of our performances have been very close. Last year we got on the right side of it, this year we haven't done as many times, quite obviously."

Defenders James Tarkowski and Gibson both took part in a training game on Tuesday following hernia operations and are in contention for the game at Selhurst Park.
