Southampton are apparently in talks with Burnley over the transfer of England Under-21s international forward Jay Rodriguez.
Reports overnight suggested that the Saints had begun negotiations with Burnley over a possible £7m move for the striker.
Nigel Adkins has highlighted the 22-year-old, who was named in the Championship team of the year, as one of his main summer targets as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of Southampton's return to the Premier League.
The South coast club had previously had a £4.5m bid rejected but Adkins is determined to get his man and has persuaded chairman Nicola Cortese to go back with an improved offer.
The bid has been accepted by the Clarets, according to BBC Radio Lancashire, but neither club has confirmed whether an agreement is in place.
Rodriguez netted 21 times for Burnley in all competitions last season.
