League One roundup: Burton Albion stay top with away win over ten-man Gillingham

Sports Mole rounds up all of Saturday's League One action.

Burton Albion have extended their lead at the top of League One with a 3-0 victory away to Gillingham in a day that saw three fixtures, including third-placed Walsall's tie with Fleetwood Town, postponed due to adverse weather conditions around the country.

Doug Loft, who was booked after 27 minutes, saw red in the 37th minute for a second bookable offence as Gillingham found themselves reduced to ten men.

Damien McCrory put league-leaders Burton in front with 59 minutes played, firing in from outside the area as Nigel Clough's new side made the most of their numerical advantage.

Lucas Akins and Anthony O'Connor both scored in injury time to seal a 3-0 away win, as Albion moved six points clear of the fourth-placed Gills, with Clough primed to take charge on Monday.

Peterborough United were held at home to Shrewsbury Town, as an 80th-minute Tyrone Barnett equaliser cancelled out Conor Washington's 56th-minute opener.

Wigan Athletic missed the opportunity to move ahead of the Posh into fifth spot as they went down 1-0 at home to Blackpool, courtesy of a Tom Aldred strike after 36 minutes.

Barnsley, who propped up the table at the beginning of the day, took an early lead against Colchester United through Irishman Conor Hourihane's seventh strike of the season.

Adam Hammill and Ivan Toney struck in the 40th and 60th minutes respectively to give the Tykes a three-goal cushion as they looked to be cruising.

A quickfire double from the U's, containing strikes from George Moncur and Chris Porter, as the game approached the 70th-minute mark saw a frantic ending to the fixture.

Barnsley managed to hang on to claim all three points, moving up to 21st in the league table as a result.

Doncaster Rovers came from behind twice as they beat Crewe Alexandra 3-2 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Marcus Haber scored in the 26th minute to give Crewe the early advantage.

Connor Grant put Rovers back in the tie six minutes later, the Everton loanee side-footing home from a cross for his fourth of the season.

Crewe looked to have stolen a victory at the death as Callum Saunders scored in the 90th minute.

However, an injury-time Cameron Stewart free kick was followed by an Andy Williams strike as Rovers stunned Crewe to take all three points.

Bury moved into seventh place as a 68th-minute Danny Mayor strike was enough to see off Chesterfield at Gigg Lane.

Swindon Town scored two goals in two minutes in the first half of their tie against Rochdale, as Fabien Robert and Ben Gladwin struck in the 33rd and 34th minutes.

Oliver Lancashire pulled one back for Rochdale after 60 minutes but the Robins held firm to record a home win.

Jack King's 36th-minute goal for Scunthorpe United was cancelled out by Ajay Leitch-Smith's first-half stoppage-time equaliser for Port Vale as the two sides shared a point each.

Bradford City's fixture against Southend United, Fleetwood's tie with Walsall and Oldham Athletic's clash against Millwall were all postponed due to the weather conditions.

Results in full (half-time scores in brackets): Bury 1-0 Chesterfield (0-0), Colchester 2-3 Barnsley (0-2), Doncaster 3-2 Crewe (1-1), Gillingham 0-3 Burton Albion (0-0), Peterborough 1-1 Shrewsbury (0-0), Port Vale 1-1 Scunthorpe (1-1), Swindon 2-1 Rochdale (2-0), Wigan 0-1 Blackpool (0-1)
