Torino had the best of the chances, with Cagliari keeper Alessio Cragno saving well to deny Andrea Belotti and Roberto Soriano.

Mid-table pair Cagliari and Torino ground out a goalless draw at the Sardegna Arena on Monday.

Torino had the best of the chances, with Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno saving well to deny Andrea Belotti and Roberto Soriano.

Cagliari, who have now failed to win any of their last three Serie A games, seldom troubled the Torino defence.

And they suffered a further blow midway through the second half when top scorer Leonardo Pavoletti was substituted with what looked like a hamstring injury.

Simone Zaza's late introduction breathed more life into the visitors' attack but he was also denied by Cragno.

With the game drifting towards its conclusion Torino's last chance to steal the points fell to Belotti, whose low drive was batted away well by the Cagliari keeper.

Their point drew Torino level with Fiorentina and Atalanta above them and enabled them to shrug off their midweek loss to Parma.

Meanwhile Cagliari moved above Genoa into 13th place on a night which did little to suggest anything but a longer struggle ahead.
