Vincent Tan: 'Cardiff City to follow Burnley formula'

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan says that he wants the Bluebirds to "follow the Burnley formula" after securing a return to the Premier League.

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has revealed that he wants to 'follow the formula' that Burnley have used in the Premier League.

On Sunday, Cardiff secured the runners-up spot in the Championship to claim the second automatic promotion spot to the top flight, and the Bluebirds have already been linked with potential signings.

However, Tan has attempted to curb any expectations in the transfer market, claiming that he will look to establish the club in the division in a similar manner to Burnley.

Tan told Wales Online: "We want to follow the Burnley formula and I do think Neil can achieve that with Cardiff. Their methods and what they have managed under Sean Dyche makes football and business sense.

"We are nowhere near other clubs and their billionaire owners who spend so much on players and wages, not even in the Championship. We can never be like the two Manchester clubs, or Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs. We can't be paying silly amounts of money to buy players, we need to be sensible about it.

"This is sport and it shouldn't just be about throwing big bucks around the whole time. I look at some of the numbers and can't believe them. How can we afford that? We just can't."

Manager Neil Warnock has described the club's promotion as the biggest achievement of his career.
