Cardiff City edge past 10-man Swansea City

Cardiff City beat Swansea City 1-0 in their Premier League clash at the Cardiff City Stadium, thanks to a goal from Steven Caulker.

Cardiff City have beaten Swansea City 1-0 in their Premier League match at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Michu wasted a great chance to give the visitors an early lead but he fired over a volley when well placed inside the box.

The striker had another chance moments later and tested David Marshall from distance, but his effort was hit straight at the keeper.

Craig Bellamy then went close for the hosts with a free kick that took a deflection and narrowly missed the top corner with the keeper left wrong-footed.

After a goalless first half, Steven Caulker gave Cardiff the lead when he rose highest to head home a corner from Bellamy.

Jonathan De Guzman came close to scoring an equaliser for Swansea two minutes from time but his long-range free kick was saved by Marshall.

Marshall was called into action moments later when he palmed away a fierce effort from Alejandro Pozuelo.

As the game entered injury time, Swansea were reduced to 10 men after keeper Michel Vorm was dismissed for bringing down Fraizer Campbell, who was through on goal.

Angel Rangel was forced to go in goal for the Swans and had to make a save from Peter Whittingham's free kick.

The home side could not add to their lead against the 10 men but they held on to record their third league win of the season.
