Cardiff beat Leicester 7-6 on penalties after the sides draw 2-2 after extra time.

Cardiff City have beaten Leicester City 7-6 on penalties after the sides drew 2-2 after extra time to make it through to the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

Don Cowie put the hosts ahead in the 33rd minute when he headed in before Steve Howard drew the visitors level when he struck at the near post.

Lloyd Dyer then gave Sven-Goran Eriksson's side the lead in the 66th minute after he knocked in a rebound.

The Bluebirds took the game into extra time when Rudy Gestede lashed in from 25-yards with four minutes left.

After a goalless 30 minutes of extra time, both sides converted 12 penalties before Gelson Fernandes smashed the ball over the bar to send Malky Mackay's side through.
