Celta Vigo too good for Eibar

Nolito scores from the penalty spot as Celta Vigo claim a 1-0 victory over Eibar in their La Liga clash.

Nolito scored the only goal of the match as Celta Vigo beat Eibar 1-0 to continue their recent revival in La Liga.

Joaquin Larrivey put the ball in the net for the visitors inside the opening two minutes, but he had already been flagged offside as he volleyed into the far corner.

Eibar showed their threat minutes later as Saul broke free down the left, before dragging his shot wide of the post.

At the other end of the pitch Santi Mina had a sight of goal for the visitors, but after being slipped into the box by Nolito, he placed his effort over the bar.

Celta began to cause their opponents a number of problems and, after stealing possession, Michael Krohn-Dehli drilled in a low strike that was held by Xabi Irureta.

Midway through the first half Larrivey went down inside the box in an attempt to win a penalty, but there was no contact from Lillo and referee rightfully waved away his appeals.

Eibar were struggling to get into the game, but they did have a glimpse of goal when Mikel Arruabarrena fired in a volley from just outside the box that was well held by Sergio Alvarez.

The visitors then had a goal ruled out for the second time, as Nolito was adjudged to have handled the ball before Hugo Mallo smashed in at the back post.

With five minutes of the first half remaining, Celta were awarded a penalty when Mina was tripped inside the box by Didac Vila and Nolito stepped up to place the spot kick into the bottom corner.

Nolito almost grabbed a second goal on the stroke of half time when his shot from just inside the Eibar half beat Irureta, but headed inches over the bar.

Three minutes into the second half, the visitors had another chance to double their lead, but after the ball landed kindly to Fabian Orellana at the back post, he blazed his shot well wide of the target.

Eibar gradually began to see more of the ball and Manu del Moral threatened with a powerful free kick from out wide that was beaten to safety by the keeper.

Celta continued to look a threat on the break and after Mallo was slipped into the box by Krohn-Dehli, Irureta had to rush quickly off his line to block at his feet.

Krohn-Dehli and Orellana saw further attempts saved, as the visitors continued to try to put the game beyond Eibar's reach.

Eibar almost made their opponents pay for those missed chances with four minutes left, as Vila's curling effort beat Alvarez, but the ball came crashing back off the bar.

It proved to be the final chance of the game, as the hosts suffered their 11th defeat in their last 13 league games.
