Football League chairman Greg Clarke insists that there are no plans in place for Celtic to join the Championship or League One.

Football League chairman Greg Clarke has denied reports that Scottish Premier League side Celtic could be joining the Championship or League One.

Speculation over the weekend arose that the Bhoys were ready to make a switch south of the border for more competitive football.

Manager Neil Lennon fuelled the rumours yesterday by insisting that his squad would be competitive if they were placed in the Premier League.

However, Clarke has insisted that no such talks have taken place and that no plans have been made to discuss the matter.

"We have absolutely no intention of having any discussions with any club from another national league regarding membership of our competition," said Clarke.

"This would be highly disrespectful to the Scottish FA and Scottish Premier League and will not be countenanced by the Football League."

Celtic can win the league title next week with a win at rivals Rangers.
