Ally McCoist: Celtic will be worthy champions

Rangers manager Ally McCoist believes that Old Firm rivals Celtic will be worthy SPL champions, despite his side's 10-point deduction.

Neil Lennon's side currently lead the table by 18 points with six games remaining and will claim their first championship since 2008 if they avoid defeat at Kilmarnock later today.

Despite some Gers fans claiming that the Hoops' success will be tainted by the financial disaster suffered at Ibrox, McCoist has insisted that Celtic will be due credit.

"They should be seen as worthy champions if they get a point," said McCoist. "We've always said the best team, 99 times out of 100, will win the championship.

"Anybody can win a cup and history has proved that. Generally speaking, the best team wins the league and I don't think Celtic will be anything other than worthy champions if and when they win it."

Celtic will record the highest SPL points total since 2004 if they earn 16 more points this season.
