Saturday's Major League Soccer predictions including St. Louis vs. Cincinnati

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Major League Soccer fixtures, including St. Louis City vs. Cincinnati,

Charlotte FC vs. Colorado (Sunday, 12.30am)

Charlotte FC forward Enzo Copetti (9) celebrates goal with Charlotte FC midfielder Kamil Jozwiak (7) in the first half against the St. Louis City at CITYPARK on March 4, 2023© Reuters

Charlotte FC and Colorado Rapids will both look to record their second wins of the MLS season when they face off on Saturday.

The hosts are winless in three games, while Colorado claimed their first victory of the campaign last weekend.

We say: Charlotte FC 1-2 Colorado Rapids

Colorado would have been relieved to secure their first win of the season last weekend, and after gaining confidence from their narrow victory against Sporting KC, we think they will go on to claim all three points against a Charlotte side that have lost two of their opening three home games.

Columbus Crew vs. New England (Sunday, 12.30am)

Two of the current top four in the MLS Eastern Conference meet on Saturday night as Columbus Crew host New England Revolution at Lower.com Field in Ohio.

Both sides come into this clash after victories in their previous matches, with Columbus defeating DC United and New England winning convincingly against CF Montreal.

We say: Columbus Crew 3-1 New England Revolution

Columbus have been in scintillating form on home soil in recent weeks and will be confident of extending their unbeaten run in the MLS to four matches against New England on Saturday.

The Revolution have responded excellently since that sobering defeat at LAFC, but we see them losing only their second match this season in Ohio on the weekend.

Montreal vs. DC United (Sunday, 12.30am)

CF Montreal head coach Hernan Losada looks on during the second half on April 9, 2023© Reuters

CF Montreal are back home after a disappointing road trip, as they play their first match of the season at Saputo Stadium on Saturday versus DC United.

Last weekend, Montreal suffered their second successive lopsided defeat of the Major League Soccer campaign, falling 4-0 to the New England Revolution, while the Black and Red extended its winless run to six games, dropping a 2-0 decision at the Columbus Crew.

We say: CF Montreal 2-1 DC United

Saturday will be the first time Losada faces DC United since being sacked by them in the early portion of last season, and we expect his current side to be extra motivated to deliver him a victory, while their midweek trade should serve as a wake-up call to these veterans to pick up their game.

DC still have not figured out how to create chances, which is unfortunate because Benteke has been a solid attacking presence, but without a midfield general to give him balls in good shooting positions, the Belgian's quality has gone to waste.

NY Red Bulls vs. Houston (Sunday, 12.30am)

New York Red Bulls head coach Gerhard Struber reacts in the first half on April 9, 2023© Reuters

New York Red Bulls will go in search of a second win of their Major League Soccer campaign on Saturday, when they welcome Houston Dynamo to Red Bull Arena.

The hosts currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with seven points on the board from their opening seven matches, while their visitors have managed three victories and nine points from their first six outings.

We say: New York Red Bulls 1-2 Houston Dynamo

While they are yet to succeed on their travels this season, Houston Dynamo do come into Saturday's game with momentum from a good run of form, and against a New York Red Bulls side who are yet to hit their stride, we fancy El Naranja to record another victory.

NY City vs. Nashville (Sunday, 12.30am)

New York City FC take on Nashville SC in the MLS on Saturday evening, with the hosts looking to continue their unbeaten start at the Yankee Stadium.

NY City are seventh in the Eastern Conference at this early juncture in the season, while Nashville are up in fifth, having picked up two more points in their opening seven games.

We say: New York City FC 1-1 Nashville SC

The two sides are separated by just two points, having both made inconsistent starts to the MLS season, and a draw is therefore the most likely result on Saturday evening.

However, if either team manages to come away with the three points, it will probably be the hosts, having gone undefeated at the Yankee Stadium so far this season.

Toronto vs. Atlanta (Sunday, 12.30am)

Toronto FC head coach Bob Bradley looks on before the game between the Atlanta United and the Toronto FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on March 4, 2023© Reuters

Toronto can extend their unbeaten run in MLS to seven matches when they return home to BMO Field for a date with Atlanta United on Saturday.

A week ago, the Reds held Nashville SC to a 0-0 draw, their second successive road result by that scoreline, while the Five Stripes drew New York City FC 1-1.

We say: Toronto 0-1 Atlanta United

Since winning the World Cup with Argentina last December, Almada has been a force to the reckoned with in MLS, and we expect he will give the Toronto backline fits with his ability to find space and pick out their attacking players.

As solid as the Reds have been defensively, they do not have a difference-maker like Almada in the middle of the field, and their finished product is still missing.

Austin vs. Vancouver (Sunday, 1.30am)

Austin FC players huddle on the field prior to the game on April 9, 2023© Reuters

Two teams separated by two points in the Western Conference standings will square off in MLS action this Saturday as Austin FC welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps to Q2 Stadium.

The Verde and Black suffered their worst campaign defeat on matchday seven, 3-0 at Los Angeles FC, allowing Vancouver to overtake them thanks to a 1-0 triumph over the Portland Timbers.

We say: Austin FC 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps

The Verde and Black are struggling to find depth along the backline forcing Josh Wolff to play Alexander Ring in central defence rather than his preferred holding midfielder role that he is more accustomed to.

Austin are a better team than their record indicates, but their overzealous defending when out of possession could allow the new, youthful Whitecaps to create scoring opportunities and deliver their first road victory of the campaign.

Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia (Sunday, 1.30am)

Chicago Fire FC forward Kei Kamara (23) celebrates with midfielder Fabian Herbers (21) and midfielder Brian Gutierrez (17) on April 9, 2023© Reuters

Chicago Fire will be aiming to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches when they entertain the challenge of Philadelphia Union on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the visitors go in search of a first Major League Soccer victory in over a month to help breathe life into what has been a poor start to the 2023 season.

We say: Chicago Fire 1-1 Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia have enjoyed the better of this fixture of late but Chicago's home record suggests that Sunday's contest is far from a forgone conclusion. We are backing the teams to cancel each other out and settle for a point apiece in the end.

Dallas vs. Salt Lake (Sunday, 1.30am)

Fresh off the back of ending their run of four consecutive defeats, Real Salt Lake take a trip to the Toyota Stadium to square off against Dallas on Saturday.

The Hoops, meanwhile, head into the weekend winless in each of their last five home games against Pablo Mastroeni's men and will be desperate to end this poor run.

We say: Dallas 2-1 Real Salt Lake

Having won their last outings, Dallas and Real Salt Lake head into the weekend looking to pick up successive wins for the first time this season. While Mastroeni's side have struggled for results on the road, the Hoops are unbeaten in three consecutive home games and we are backing them to come away with all three points, albeit by the odd goal.

Minnesota Utd vs. Orlando City (Sunday, 1.30am)

Minnesota United manger Adrian Heath looks on on April 2, 2023© Reuters

Minnesota United take on Orlando City at Allianz Field on Saturday evening, in the latest round of MLS fixtures.

The hosts are fifth in the Western Conference after a solid start to the season, while the visitors are eighth in the Eastern Conference, having acquired eight points from their opening six games.

We say: Minnesota United 1-0 Orlando City

Orlando displayed they have what it takes to beat some of the better sides in the division, having defeated Philadelphia Union in their last away match, but they have been too inconsistent.

As such, we expect the hosts to get their solid start back on track with a narrow 1-0 victory, in keeping with their other results this season, yet to win by more than one goal.

St Louis City vs. Cincinnati (Sunday, 1.30am)

St Louis City players huddle before their game on April 9, 2023© Reuters

For the first time in Major League Soccer history, FC Cincinnati will visit CityPark on Saturday to battle St Louis City in the eighth match for both teams this season.

Following a five-match winning run to begin the campaign, St Louis have dropped two in a row, falling 3-0 versus the Seattle Sounders on matchday seven, while Cincinnati are the only unbeaten team remaining in the Eastern Conference, having defeated the Philadelphia Union 1-0 last Saturday.

We say: St Louis City 1-1 FC Cincinnati

Both teams are off to great starts this year and deserve to be where they are in the table, so given the quality of each, we expect to see some scoring chances but not enough for either to have a decisive edge.

Portland vs. Seattle (Sunday, 3.30am)

Portland Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese reacts during the first half on April 2, 2023© Reuters

Seattle Sounders will be looking to continue their fantastic start to the MLS season when they travel to Providence Park to take on Portland Timbers on Saturday evening.

Seattle are top of the table, having picked up 16 points from their first seven games, while Portland have made a poor start to the campaign, currently down in 12th place.

We say: Portland Timbers 0-2 Seattle Sounders

Seattle Sounders have made an excellent start to the season, particularly impressing in the 3-0 victory against St Louis City last time out, and we expect them to put their bad recent record against Portland Timbers behind them this weekend.

Jordan Morris has been in fantastic form, with eight MLS goals up to this point, and the striker could be the difference-maker in attack, while the defence has been solid enough to indicate Seattle are likely to get a clean sheet.

Earthquakes vs. Kansas (Sunday, 3.30am)

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza (10) and teammates after scoring a goal on April 2, 2023© Reuters

On Saturday, the San Jose Earthquakes can keep their unbeaten run at PayPal Park this season intact when they take on Sporting Kansas City.

The Goonies let two points slip away on matchday seven, drawing the New York Red Bulls 1-1, while Sporting are one of only two Major League Soccer teams without a win this year, dropping a 1-0 decision in their previous outing at home to the Colorado Rapids.

We say: San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 Sporting Kansas City

Solid team unity and some quality up front can take you a long way, and the Quakes look much improved in virtually every aspect of their game early on.

Kansas City have put together some good performances at times but cannot seem to find solutions to their goalscoring woes, which is why we are tipping the Quakes to claim a narrow victory.
