Royston Drenthe's long-range goal gives Sheffield Wednesday a 1-0 half-time lead over Charlton Athletic.

Sheiffield Wednesday lead Charlton Athletic 1-0 at half time thanks to Royston Drenthe's long-range effort.

The home side could have taken an early lead when the returning Yoni Buyens found George Tucudean inside the Sheffield Wednesday box, but the Romanian striker's effort was saved by Kieren Westwood.

Former Real Madrid winger Drenthe fired an effort narrowly wide following a Wednesday set piece on 13 minutes, then teed up Jacques Maghoma, but his effort was turned away by Stephen Henderson.

The lively Drenthe fired his side ahead from distance on 27 minutes to put the Owls on course for three Championship points.
