Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Barnsley

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship encounter between Charlton and Barnsley at The Valley.

Barnsley could lift themselves off the bottom of the Championship table with a point against Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday.

The Yorkshire club currently prop up the division but are only below Yeovil Town on goal difference and would leapfrog the Glovers in the table if they are able to better their result.

However, they don't go into the match in great form having gone seven games without a victory in all competitions, last picking up maximum points against Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of December.

That victory was also their solitary success on the road so far this season, although their away record has improved of late with back-to-back draws.

Danny Wilson's side are currently five points from safety, while they are also out of the FA Cup having conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 to Coventry City in the third round on Saturday.

The visitors will be without Marcus Tudgay through suspension, while David Fox faces a late fitness test to see whether he will be ready in time for the match.

Charlton are not exactly in sparkling form themselves this season, sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

They have won just once in their last eight games, although they have forged a four-match unbeaten streak in recent weeks, recording three draws and a victory.

The Addicks have only won three times at home in the league all season, amassing just 13 points from their 13 games in front of their own fans.

The hosts will be looking to impress their new owner during the match, but they may have to do so without Leon Cort, who is a doubt. New signing Astrit Ajdarevic, meanwhile, may be forced to wait for his debut.
