Vincent Kompany's stunning long-range strike against Leicester City is named the Premier League goal of the season in Sports Mole's Reader Awards.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has won Sports Mole's Goal of the Season award for his long-range strike against Leicester City on May 6.

The defender blasted the only goal of the game into the top corner from 25 yards out to hand City a crucial victory en route to defending the Premier League title, becoming the first team in a decade to retain the trophy.

The goal was Kompany's first from outside the box in his Man City career and proved to be his final goal for the club too as he announced his exit following the FA Cup final.

Kompany's strike earned 25.8% of the votes, narrowly pipping Andros Townsend's spectacular volley against Man City in Crystal Palace's memorable victory at the Etihad Stadium on December 22.

Another long-range strike rounds off the top three with Mohamed Salah's stunner against Chelsea earning 16.1% of the votes, while Eden Hazard's slaloming solo effort against West Ham United last month claimed 14.5%.

Daniel Sturridge's goal against Chelsea in September gives Liverpool a second goal against the Blues in the top five, and Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Ramsey, Andre Schurrle and Fabian Schar were among the other players to make the final shortlist.
