Half-Time Report: Chelsea ahead against Everton

Diego Costa and Branislav Ivanovic score inside of three minutes as Chelsea take a 2-1 lead into the halfway stage of their Premier League match against Everton.

Two goals inside the opening three minutes have given Chelsea a 2-1 lead against Everton in this evening's Premier League clash at Goodison Park.

The visitors opened the scoring with less than 40 seconds on the clock when Cesc Fabregas threaded a ball through to Diego Costa, who then slipped an effort under the legs of Tim Howard for his third goal in as many games.

They added a second in the third minute of the match as Branislav Ivanovic latched onto a pass from Ramires before firing a strike past the American keeper.

Everton thought that they had levelled the scores in the 16th minute when Romelu Lukaku saw his header come back off the bar and Sylvain Distin put the rebound into the net, but the defender was adjudged to have been in an offside position.

Steven Naismith fired a shot just wide of the post and Kevin Miralles forced Thibaut Courtois to hold onto his long-range effort as the hosts looked for a way back into the match.

Costa was denied the chance to score a third for Chelsea after being wrongly ruled offside, and Everton quickly made their opponents pay by reducing the deficit on the stroke of half-time when Mirallas powerfully headed home from Seamus Coleman's cross.
