Half-Time Report: Steven Naismith goal gives Everton lead

Steven Naismith heads Everton to a 1-0 lead late in the first half at Goodison Park against Chelsea this evening.

A goal from Steven Naismith late in the first half has given Everton a 1-0 lead over Chelsea at Goodison Park this evening.

Samuel Eto'o had a chance to open the scoring in the fourth minute on his Chelsea debut, but he headed the ball over from a Ramires cross before sending a 30-yard attempt over later in the half.

The Cameroon striker continued to threaten and had a chance to slot the ball into an empty net after wrong-footing Tim Howard, but Gareth Barry managed to make a block for the home side.

The Everton keeper looked sharper when he was tested next, punching away a curling effort from Ramires 10 minutes before the break.

Despite Chelsea's dominance, a ball into the box from Nikica Jelavic dropped to Naismith, who headed the Toffees into the lead in the final seconds of the half.
