Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool.

Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as both clubs look to build on their opening-game wins in the Premier League.

Two days after the defending champions edged out Leeds United in a seven-goal thriller, the Blues battled hard to get the better of Brighton & Hove Albion by a 3-1 scoreline.

However, despite the victory on the South Coast, manager Frank Lampard continues to have to deal with a wide range of selection issues.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the encounter against the Merseyside giants.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Despite completing a big-money switch to the Blues, Chilwell arrived at Stamford Bridge with an ankle injury which he sustained in July. While the left-back is closing in on a return to action, the new arrival is unlikely to feature on Sunday.

Billy Gilmour

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

After suffering a significant knee injury against Crystal Palace in July, Gilmour has been ruled out until the end of the autumn at the earliest.

Christian Pulisic

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: September 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Despite being expected to feature in the squad against Brighton, Pulisic was not involved in the 18-man squad. Lampard later revealed that the United States international had suffered a minor setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury, hinting that he is unlikely to play against Liverpool.

Hakim Ziyech

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: September 26 (vs. West Bromwich Albion)

On his opening outing for the Blues in a friendly against Brighton, Ziyech sustained what was described as "a little twist to the knee". Lampard has acknowledged that the Moroccan will be sidelined until the closing week of the month.

Thiago Silva

Status: Out
Type of injury: Lack of fitness
Possible return date: September 23 (vs. Barnsley)

Having made his first appearance on the training ground later than expected, Silva remains out of contention as he continues to settle in behind the scenes.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

With Mateo Kovacic having served a one-match suspension, the Croatia international will return to the squad at the weekend.
