Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Grimsby Town

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Chelsea's meeting with Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Chelsea will be desperate for a return to winning ways in the EFL Cup against Grimsby Town after consecutive defeats at Stamford Bridge over the last week.

Frank Lampard's side, amid a wave of positivity following a 5-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers, have lost home clashes with Valencia and Liverpool in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.

The Blues came close to claiming this trophy last year, reaching the final against Manchester City before losing out on penalties.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the game against Grimsby.

Emerson Palmieri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Emerson picked up an injury over the international break, with Frank Lampard initially claiming that the knock was not serious, but the Italian's thigh problem appears to have not resolved itself and it remains unclear as to when he will return to action.

Antonio Rudiger

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

The German had returned from a knee injury sustained in April against Wolves, only to slip on the turf as he walked off for half time, and has in turn exacerbated a groin injury which Lampard revealed had been pestering him for a few weeks.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Out
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: November 2 (vs. Watford)

Loftus-Cheek remains some way off coming back to action for the Blues after sustaining an injury to his Achilles tendon ahead of the Europa League final in May, with the earliest return date being the start of November.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: September 25 (vs. Grimsby Town)

Hudson-Odoi also picked up an Achilles injury ahead of the Europa League final, although he has recovered faster, with Lampard confirming earlier this month that he had been training for some time. Wednesday's game at Stadium MK could see the Englishman make a return to action from the bench.

Reece James

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 25 (vs. Grimsby Town)

The teenager was expected to recover from ankle surgery by the end of August, and despite returning to training this month, Lampard is highly unlikely to use him due to a lack of match fitness.

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Van Ginkel has been injured with a severe ACL problem for over a year and there is still no timescale regarding when he could return.

Andreas Christensen

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: September 25 (vs. Grimsby Town)

Christensen picked up a 'bang on the knee' against Liverpool and was forced off, but Lampard confirmed after the game that the knock was not serious.
