Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has suggested that the Blues are running out of lives in their bid to defend the Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho's side had to come from two goals down to snatch a point at Newcastle United on Saturday, with the 2-2 draw leaving them 15th in the table and eight points behind current leaders Manchester United.

Cahill has warned his teammates that they cannot afford to drop many more points if they want to catch their title rivals.

"We've given up a lot of our lifelines now. We have given up too many ­opportunities and if we'd have lost this game today, who knows?" he told Get West London.

"Man City lost, so it was time for us to capitalise. But Newcastle are fighting for their lives and they got their fans onside when they went up, which wasn't great for us. We got a point, but we leave disappointed."

Chelsea face Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
