Antonio Conte believes that Chelsea put in "a good performance with good intensity" in their 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

Antonio Conte has hailed a "good performance with good intensity" as Chelsea picked up a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

The Blues were frustrated in an opening period in which Tiemoue Bakayoko and Victor Moses went close but broke the deadlock through the returning Alvaro Morata shortly after the restart.

Chelsea then added a second on the hour through Marcos Alonso for a routine victory, and Conte believes that the hosts were just as dominant as they were in the goalless draw with Everton.

"In the first half we had the right chances to score but didn't take them," the Italian told reporters. "For this reason it becomes difficult because your opponent stays with 10 players behind the ball.

"In the second half we settled very well and created many chances. It was a good performance with good intensity.

"It's the same performance against Everton - against Everton we showed 25 times we had shots on goal but today we scored twice. We are in a good moment of form and just continue this way."

The result edges third-placed Chelsea to within a point of Manchester United, who could only draw 2-2 with Burnley at Old Trafford.
