Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has warned that Fernando Torres is not guaranteed a starting place in his team for this season.
Torres looked a frustrated figure for much of last season as Didier Drogba carried the club to domestic and European Cup success.
The Spaniard will expect to be made the leading striker now Drogba has left for China, but Di Matteo is adamant that there will be competition for places.
The Italian said: "We have three strikers at the moment in the squad, and I would not be saying who is going to be playing.
"They will all have to fight for their position and there is healthy competition. Whomever is in the best form and can give the best for the team will be playing."
Di Matteo also said that he expects Torres to be in buoyant mood ready for the new season.
"I am expecting him here in a good mood, to be buzzing and be very good next season," he added.
"Certainly winning the Golden Boot and the Euros should give them a lot of confidence, I expect him next season to be a fantastic player with us."
Torres will be intent on making a statement to his manager, starting with the Community Shield against Manchester City at Villa Park on August 12.
