Joan Laporta: 'Jose Mourinho wanted Barcelona job'

Joan Laporta claims that Jose Mourinho wanted to become coach of Barcelona after leaving Chelsea in 2007.

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wanted to take over at Camp Nou back in 2008.

The Portuguese boss left Stamford Bridge six years ago after a falling out with chairman Roman Abramovich and was allegedly keen to take charge of the Catalan outfit following Frank Rijkaard's exit.

However, Mourinho headed to Inter Milan instead after Barca opted to choose Pep Guardiola due to his better-suited management style.

"Mourinho is a little bit of a Cule and he wanted to come to Barcelona, but it wasn't possible because we had decided to sign Guardiola as coach," Laporta told El Pais.

Mourinho returned to Chelsea earlier this summer.
