Manuel Pellegrini: Manchester City 'relying' on Chelsea dropping points

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini admits that his side need Chelsea to drop more points if they are to take their fight for the Premier League title to to the end.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that they are relying on Chelsea to drop more points after his side closed the gap at the top of the Premier League today.

Chelsea were held at home by Burnley before City thrashed Newcastle United 5-0 to reduce the gap to five points, which made Pellegrini very happy.

He told BBC Sport: "Very pleased because we returned to a scoring team and did not concede goals. If the other teams drop points it is good for us. Of course, we need to continue winning if we want to fight for the title and we need Chelsea to drop more points.

"Four goals were wonderful play and the first goal was good play as well. It is very important to arrive for the Barcelona game having won today."

City host Barca in the Champions League this week, with their next league game at Liverpool.
