Brendan Rodgers: 'It was a clear, clear penalty'

Brendan Rodgers feels that Liverpool were denied a "clear, clear penalty" in their 2-1 loss to Chelsea.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has bemoaned the referee's decision not to award a "clear, clear penalty" in his side's 2-1 loss at home to Chelsea this afternoon.

Emre Can had given Liverpool an early lead, but after Gary Cahill and Diego Costa had tipped the game back in Chelsea's favour, Cahill stopped a goalbound Steven Gerrard effort with his arm late on, much to the dismay of Rodgers.

"We worked so hard in the game, but we need those decisions that are obvious," Rodgers told BBC Sport after the game.

"It was a clear, clear penalty. I was very disappointed because the players gave everything in the game. We deserved at least a point for sure.

"You need that wee bit of luck going for you and it isn't at the moment. It has been a tough week."

The loss leaves Liverpool in eighth place after a run of four league games without a win.
