Former Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle surprised at securing Premier League medal

Schurrle pleased to earn Premier League medal

Wolfsburg winger Andre Schurrle has expressed his surprise at finding out from former manager Jose Mourinho that he was eligible for a Premier League winner's medal.

The 24-year-old made 14 appearances for eventual league champions Chelsea earlier this season before sealing a £22m move to the Bundesliga in February.

Schurrle told BBC Sport: "I didn't know that I'd get a medal when I didn't play most of the second half of the season.

"Jose Mourinho sent me a text to say that I'd get a medal and he asked me to come to the last game. That was very nice for me.

"I'm really happy for the boys. They played a very good second half of the season so of course, for me, it's good to get a medal but the boys did the work."

Schurrle left Chelsea having scored 14 times in 65 appearances since moving to West London in 2013.
