England captain John Terry insists that he is "in a great state of mind" despite recent allegations that he racially abused Anton Ferdinand.

England captain John Terry has insisted that he is "in a great state of mind" despite recent allegations that he racially abused Anton Ferdinand.

The 30-year-old was speaking for the first time since both the Metropolitan Police and Football Association announced that they would be investigating the incident.

Although it was made clear to reporters attending today's press conference that Terry would not be answering direct questions about the investigations, he did reveal that the whole squad are behind him.

"The squad has been very supportive both publically and privately," Terry told the press this afternoon. "I think that the players have shown that we are united no matter what.

"I am in a great state of mind and I'm completely focused on playing well and training.

"So from my side of things nothing has changed at all."

Having missed England's 1-0 victory over Spain on Saturday, Terry will return to captain the team in tomorrow's friendly against Sweden.
