Chelsea insist that they will stand by their captain John Terry following his charge of a racially aggravated public order offence.

Chelsea have insisted that they will stand by their captain John Terry following news that he has been charged for alleged racist comments made towards Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

The club, who will not comment on the matter further, have insisted that Terry is innocent.

"John has made it clear he denies the charge and is determined to do all he can to prove his innocence," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Chelsea FC has always been fully supportive of John in this matter and will continue to be so.

"The club finds all forms of discrimination abhorrent and we are proud of the work we undertake campaigning on this important issue."

Terry is due to appear in court on Wednesday, February 1.
