Andre Villas-Boas begins his Chelsea reign with a goalless draw away at Stoke.

Andre Villas-Boas began his League campaign at the head of Chelsea with a goalless draw away at Stoke.

Fernando Torres started for The Blues at the expense of Didier Drogba but despite some strong runs, was unable to break from his frustrating form and find the net.

Stoke's Matthew Etherington was taken off early in the second half with a suspected dislocated shoulder, teammate Rory Delap following minutes later with a hamstring injury.

Chelsea next face West Brom on Saturday at Stamford Bridge, while Stoke are away to FC Thun in the Europa League on Thursday before travelling to Norwich a week today.
