Chelsea fail to keep the pressure on the top two after a 1-1 draw at Wigan.

Chelsea have failed to keep the pressure on the Premier League's top two after a 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic.

The hosts felt agrieved not to have had a penalty in the first half when Branislav Ivanovic looked to have handled Victor Moses' goalbound shot. However, referee Martin Atkinson waved away the appeals.

The away side got the breakthrough just before the hour when Daniel Sturridge fired in from a tight angle following Ashley Cole's cross-field ball.

Wigan continued to battle away and they were rewarded for their efforts with two minutes to go when Jordi Gomez pounced after Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech had failed to hold on to the ball.
