Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero hits out at the club's board following a poor run of form which has led to scrutiny over Ange Postecoglou's position.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has criticised the board following the club's recent poor run of form.

Spurs gave up a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 in Sunday's Premier League clash against London rivals Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou's side have now failed to win any of their four competitive matches since they beat Manchester City 4-0 on November 23.

Spurs are currently sitting in the bottom half of the table in 11th position, with seven points separating them from the top four.

The club's underwhelming run of results has led to speculation surrounding Postecoglou's position as Tottenham head coach.

Cristian Romero criticises Tottenham board

However, Romero believes that Tottenham's lack of spending, rather than Postecoglou's management, has left them lagging behind their Premier League rivals.

"Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn't do well, strengthens again, and now they're seeing results. Those are the things to imitate," Romero told Telemundo Deportes following Sunday's defeat to Chelsea.

"You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully, they [the board] realise it."

"The last few years, it's always the same - first the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it's always the same people responsible.

"Hopefully they realise who the true responsible ones are and we move forward because it's a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year."

Is Postecoglou's job at risk?

A recent report claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has no immediate plans to part ways with Postecoglou despite the club's poor run of results.

There is a belief that the Spurs hierarchy are focusing on improving the squad in January rather than making a managerial change.

However, Tottenham have allegedly identified Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna as a potential candidate to replace Postecoglou if they opt to change their stance on the Australian's position.

The ex-Celtic boss will hoping to spark an upturn in results when Tottenham take on his former rivals Rangers in Thursday's Europa League clash.
