Chelsea legend Didier Drogba announced his retirement from football on Wednesday evening following a glittering and trophy-laden career.

The Ivorian's golden years came in the Premier League, where he established himself as one of the world's best strikers to leave an indelible mark on the division.

Drogba is by no means the only great forward to have graced the competition since its inception in 1992, though, with plenty of the world's best having plied their trade in the English top flight.

Indeed, such is the competition for places in this list that a number of world-class talents miss out - including the likes of Ian Wright, Eric Cantona, Michael Owen, Robin van Persie, Les Ferdinand, Harry Kane and Teddy Sheringham.

Here, Sports Mole counts down the very best strikers of the Premier League era.
