Chelsea make contact with Bayern Munich to discuss a potential move for David Alaba, according to a report.

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Bayern Munich to discuss a potential move for David Alaba during this summer's transfer window.

The Blues are expected to be in the market for a new left-back ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, with both Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso potentially leaving the club this summer.

Leicester City's Ben Chilwell has been strongly linked with Frank Lampard's side, but the England international could ultimately be priced out of a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to The Athletic, Chilwell is Chelsea's leading target, but the London club are exploring alternatives and have identified Alaba as a potential signing.

The report claims that the Blues have been in contact with Bayern to determine whether the German champions would be prepared to sell him during this summer's transfer window.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, who will see his current deal at the Allianz Arena expire next summer.

The Austria international has made 380 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, including 36 outings during the 2019-20 campaign, where he has largely operated as a central defender.
