Chelsea to open talks with Thiago Silva over contract extension?

Chelsea are reportedly "positive" that they can agree a one-year extension with veteran centre-back Thiago Silva, who has impressed throughout the campaign.

Chelsea are reportedly keen to keep Thiago Silva on the books at Stamford Bridge for the 2021-22 campaign.

The former Paris Saint-Germain stalwart is showing no signs of slowing down at the age of 36, and he has quickly become a leader in the Chelsea defence since his arrival last summer.

Silva only penned a one-year deal with the capital outfit when he joined as a free agent, but having impressed for the Blues in the current campaign, the Brazil international could be set to stay a little while longer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the centre-back is set to sit down and discuss his future with the club in the coming weeks, but the overall feeling is "positive" and there is no rush to wrap up a deal soon.

Romano adds that the financial side of Silva's new contract would remain untouched, and it is now down to the player and his agents to decide whether another year with Chelsea is the right option.

The veteran defender has turned out 21 times for Chelsea in all competitions this term, including 17 starts in the Premier League, and he also has two goals to his name in the top flight.
